What we've verified for Bahrain

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 23 September 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation for Bahrain, updated 10 June 2026: advice to postpone travel, passport validity, green booklet, two-week renewable visa at the border and online, currency, alcohol); evisa.gov.bh (official portal: visa on arrival country list, two non-refundable payments); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/bahrain (UK Government: renewal, exit bans, Ebola); who.int (WHO) and sanidad.gob.es (Spain's Ministry of Health, "Listado de países"): yellow fever; data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 23 September 2026. Also: customs.gov.bh (Bahrain Customs Affairs, "Duty Free Allowances": tobacco allowances, 3 litres of alcohol, 12 cans of beer and 300 dinars; accessed 25 September 2026); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/bahrain (overstay penalties, re-read on 25 September 2026).

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Bahrain rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever: a certificate is required from travellers over nine months of age arriving from a country with risk of transmission, or who have spent more than 12 hours in transit at an airport in one of them.

Customs limits

Cash
There are no restrictions on bringing in or taking out foreign currency, according to Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Alcohol
The sale and consumption of alcohol and pork products are allowed.
Tobacco
Aged 18 and over: 400 regular or heated cigarettes, or 250 grams of tobacco, or 400 nicotine pouches; plus 50 cigars, a quarter of a kilo of pipe tobacco, 10 e-cigarettes, one electronic hookah device and one heating device. Personal effects and gifts are exempt up to 300 dinars.

Overstay penalties

Overstaying can lead to penalties and legal problems, and the UK Government warns that exceeding legal residency is fined, although it gives no figures. The amount could not be confirmed against Bahrain's immigration law.

Grounds for refusal

  • A passport valid for less than six months.
  • Having been in a country with an Ebola outbreak in the previous 30 days.
What to do if you are refused entry →

Do you need a different visa for Manama, Muharraq, or Riffa?

No. Bahrain sets the requirements, so entering through Manama asks for the same as entering through Muharraq or Riffa. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Bahrain

Bahrain has three properties on the World Heritage List, all tied to its ancient and maritime history: Qal'at al-Bahrain, the ancient harbour and capital of Dilmun (2005), the pearling industry, testimony of an island economy (2012), and the Dilmun burial mounds (2019). Before planning a visit, bear in mind the advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which recommends postponing travel because of the regional conflict and asks travellers to register with the Spanish Embassy in Kuwait, which covers Bahrain.
