Do you need a different visa for Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, or Brasilia?
No. Brazil sets the requirements, so entering through Sao Paulo asks for the same as entering through Rio de Janeiro or Brasilia. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.
What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
What draws travelers to Brazil
Brazil is nearly a continent and the trip is chosen by region. Rio de Janeiro — Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado, Sugarloaf, Copacabana — is the usual entry point, and its urban landscape is a World Heritage site. The north-east is Afro-Brazilian culture and beach: Salvador da Bahia and its Pelourinho historic centre, also World Heritage. The Iguaçu Falls, on the border with Argentina, are one of the new natural wonders. And the Amazon, with Manaus as the gateway, is a nature destination in itself. Brazil has more than twenty UNESCO World Heritage sites. Two weeks cover Rio, Iguaçu and a third point — the north-east or the Amazon — not everything. Being in the southern hemisphere, summer (December-March) is hot and humid and overlaps with Carnival; the austral winter is drier and milder in the south-east.
