Which passport do you hold?

We'll take you straight to the entry requirements for Cyprus for your nationality.

What we've verified for Cyprus

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 25 September 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: gov.cy (Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Paris, "Visa Information", modified 13 November 2025: documents, fees of 90, 45 and 35 euros, recognition of Schengen visas since June 2014, Turkey and Azerbaijan exception, 30,000-euro insurance, time limits and appeals); home-affairs.ec.europa.eu (Annex 25 of the Practical Handbook for Border Guards, version of 1 April 2026: case-by-case decision at the border); EUR-Lex: Directive 2007/74/EC (Arts. 8 and 9) and Regulation (EU) 2018/1672; gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/cyprus (UK Government: outside Schengen, no EES, stamps, stop list of up to five years, entry through the north, 40 cigarettes on the Green Line); exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Cyprus, updated 8 June 2026: ID card, Ercan and northern ports, Green Line crossings, allowances of 260 euros, 1 litre and 40 cigarettes, car insurance); sanidad.gob.es ("Listado de países") and who.int (WHO): yellow fever; data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 25 September 2026.

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Cyprus rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller. Grounds for refusal depend on how you enter.

Vaccinations

  • No mandatory vaccines for entry. Cyprus does not ask any traveller for a yellow fever certificate, wherever they arrive from, according to the list the WHO publishes under the International Health Regulations.

Customs limits

Cash
Cash or travellers' cheques from 10,000 euros must be declared when entering or leaving the EU (Regulation (EU) 2018/1672).
Alcohol
From outside the EU, aged 17 and over: 1 litre of drinks over 22% or 2 litres at 22% or under, plus 4 litres of still wine and 16 litres of beer (Directive 2007/74/EC, Art. 9). Crossing the Green Line from north to south, no more than 1 litre of alcohol and 260 euros of purchases.
Tobacco
From outside the EU by air, aged 17 and over: 200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250 grams of tobacco (Directive 2007/74/EC, Art. 8). From north to south across the Green Line only 40 cigarettes per person are allowed, and police can confiscate the excess and fine; branded goods can be held as possible counterfeits. Meat, milk and products containing them cannot be brought in.

Overstay penalties

Anyone who overstays can be questioned by immigration on departure and placed on the "stop list", barred from re-entering Cyprus for up to five years, according to the UK Government. The amount of any fine could not be confirmed against the Cypriot aliens and immigration law.

Grounds for refusal

Apply to: Visa-free

  • Failing to show sufficient funds or accommodation in Cyprus.
  • Being on the list of persons barred from entering the Republic of Cyprus.
  • Having previously entered the island through Ercan airport or a northern port.

Apply to: Visa required

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

Do you need a different visa for Nicosia, Limassol, or Paphos?

No. Cyprus sets the requirements, so entering through Nicosia asks for the same as entering through Limassol or Paphos. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Cyprus

Cyprus has three properties on the World Heritage List. Paphos, on the west coast, brings together the mosaics of its Roman villas, the rock-cut Tombs of the Kings and the sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia. In the Troodos mountains, ten Byzantine churches and monasteries with pitched roofs hold complete cycles of wall painting, and Choirokoitia is one of the best-preserved Neolithic settlements in the eastern Mediterranean. Nicosia is the last divided capital in Europe, and Ledra Street lets you walk into the north in a few minutes. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends always entering and leaving through the south, not staying in northern hotels that may stand on property claimed by its Greek Cypriot owners, and bearing in mind that a SIM card bought in the south usually does not work in the north.
