Dominica rules for every passport
Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.
Vaccinations
- Yellow fever: a certificate is required from travellers over one year of age arriving from a country with risk of transmission, and from those who have spent more than 12 hours in transit at an airport in one of those countries.
Customs limits
- Cash
- Cash or traveller's cheques worth 10,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars or more must be declared; you receive a certified declaration.
- Alcohol
- No allowance published by customs could be confirmed. Banned items include fake stamps and coins, pornography, infected animals and pen-shaped guns.
Overstay penalties
Overstaying or working without a work permit is illegal, according to the UK Government. The amount of the penalties could not be confirmed against Dominican law.
Grounds for refusal
- No return or onward ticket.
- A passport with less than six months' validity or no blank page.
- Arriving from a yellow fever risk country without the certificate.
Travel insurance
Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

Do you need a different visa for Roseau, Portsmouth, or Marigot?
No. Dominica sets the requirements, so entering through Roseau asks for the same as entering through Portsmouth or Marigot. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.
What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
What draws travellers to Dominica
Dominica has one property on the World Heritage List: Morne Trois Pitons National Park, inscribed in 1997, with rainforest around a 1,342-metre volcano, fumaroles, hot springs, three freshwater lakes and a boiling lake. It is a green volcanic island, and most trips revolve around nature and hiking. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs flags no risk areas. Follow the weather reports in hurricane season, from June to November.
