The Sinai Peninsula: what changes

Flying into Sharm El Sheikh to stay under fifteen days at resorts in Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba needs no visa: you get a free entry permission stamp at the airport. That stamp does not cover leaving the area or longer stays, which need a visa. At the Taba land crossing from Israel the FCDO describes three different border taxes depending on how far you travel, and going beyond Sinai also needs the ordinary entry visa plus a letter of guarantee. The figures are the FCDO's and are worth confirming before you travel, since payment is in cash at the crossing itself.

Do you need a different visa for Cairo, Hurghada, or Alexandria?

No. Egypt sets the requirements, so entering through Cairo asks for the same as entering through Hurghada or Alexandria. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

With one exception, explained above: the rules for The Sinai Peninsula are not the rules for the rest of Egypt.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
