Do you need a different visa for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, or Da Nang?
No. Vietnam sets the requirements, so entering through Hanoi asks for the same as entering through Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.
What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
What draws travelers to Vietnam
Vietnam runs north to south down a long, narrow strip. The north revolves around Hanoi — the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake — and Ha Long Bay, with its nearly two thousand limestone islets, a World Heritage site. The centre gathers Hue, the imperial capital of the Nguyen dynasty, and Hoi An, a trading port with more than a thousand preserved old buildings; both are World Heritage. The south is Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), energetic and contemporary, with the Mekong Delta and the Cu Chi tunnels nearby. Vietnam has 8 UNESCO World Heritage sites. Two weeks allow an unhurried end-to-end trip, linked by train or domestic flights. The climate varies sharply by region and season: there is no single ideal time for the whole country at once, but February to April is usually good in most of it.
