What we've verified for Zambia

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 25 September 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Zambia, updated 9 June 2026: no visa for Spanish citizens, six-month passport with three pages and no ID cards, KAZA, Victoria Falls entry, yellow fever, risk areas near the Democratic Republic of the Congo); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/zambia (UK Government: ticket and funds, 90 days in 12 months, 30 for business, dual nationality, KAZA and where to get it, departure charge); sanidad.gob.es ("Listado de países") and who.int (WHO): yellow fever; data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 25 September 2026. Also: zra.org.zm (Zambia Revenue Authority, "Importation of Goods": excisable goods allowances, USD 1,000 and form CE6; accessed 25 September 2026).

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Zambia rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever: a certificate is required from travellers over 9 months of age arriving from a country with risk of transmission and from those who have spent more than 12 hours in transit at an airport in one of them.

Customs limits

Alcohol
Aged 18 and over, duty-free: 1.5 litres of spirits, 2.5 litres of wine and 2.5 litres of beer. There is also a general allowance of 1,000 US dollars in goods for personal use; anything above it is declared on form CE6.
Tobacco
Aged 18 and over, duty-free: 400 cigarettes, or half a kilo of tobacco, or half a kilo of cigars.

Grounds for refusal

  • A passport with less than six months' validity or without enough blank pages.
  • No return ticket or sufficient money.
  • Having already used the 90 tourist days in the previous 12 months.
  • Arriving from a yellow fever risk country without the certificate.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

See IATI's international site →

IATI sells its policies according to the country you live in. Where do you live?

Do you need a different visa for Lusaka, Livingstone, or Ndola?

No. Zambia sets the requirements, so entering through Lusaka asks for the same as entering through Livingstone or Ndola. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Zambia

Zambia has one property on the World Heritage List: Mosi-oa-Tunya, Victoria Falls, which it shares with Zimbabwe and which is visited from Livingstone. For safaris there is South Luangwa National Park, known for walking safaris, the Lower Zambezi, explored by canoe, and Kafue, one of the largest parks in Africa. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges maximum caution in rural areas near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and regards the rest of the country as risk-free with the usual precautions.
