Verified practical details

You'll need to apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy before travelling. Here are the practical details we've verified:

Authorisation system

Immigration Division visitor visa

Visas are granted by the Immigration Division of the Department of Justice and Border Control, or by a Nauruan mission in the country where the applicant is. Nationals of visa waiver agreement countries and of the fee-exempt list (most Pacific States, China, Israel, Russia and Thailand) can request it on arrival, with no form. Everyone else has to apply before travelling, on Form 7. It is granted for holidays, visiting family, conferences or cultural and sporting activities, to anyone holding an onward ticket and the documents to enter their next destination. No visa is needed for an airport transit of under three hours.

Fee

50 AUD

Visitor visa for up to one month. Up to two months costs 150 and up to three, 250. Nationals of agreement countries and of the exempt list pay nothing.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least three months from arrival, according to the UK Government (Spain's Foreign Ministry asks for six).
  • Return or onward ticket and the documents to enter the next destination.
  • Accommodation booking.
  • A visitor visa granted before travel, with Form 7 and proof of payment of the fee. Applicants from Australia or New Zealand also need a sponsorship letter from a Nauruan citizen living in Nauru.

Transit rules

Bringing in plants and animals is controlled by the Quarantine Division. There is no public transport: one paved road circles the island, and Spain's Foreign Ministry advises hiring a car through a trusted local agent and taking a driver. Flights are few and irregular, and there is no tourist infrastructure. The Ministry warns of attacks by stray dogs, especially on beaches.
