Authorisation system
Electronic visa from the Ministry of Immigration and Population
A visa is required and is applied for as an electronic visa on the website of the Ministry of Immigration and Population. The tourist visa is valid for 90 days from issue, allows a 28-day stay with no extension (70 days for business) and a single entry: returning after a trip to another country needs a new visa. With an electronic visa, entry is only possible through Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw airports and the Kawthaung land crossing.
Required documents
- Passport with at least six months' validity.
- Printed electronic visa.
Transit rules
Transit through some areas needs prior authorisation and there are checkpoints and searches on many roads. Spain's Foreign Ministry recommends avoiding all land borders, strictly following traffic and immigration rules and keeping supplies of water, food, medicine and batteries. People are arrested for messages critical of the de facto authorities, and social media is monitored.
