Verified practical details
You don't need a visa to enter Kosovo, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:
Authorisation system
90-day visa exemption
Citizens of the EU, the Schengen area, the United Kingdom, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, the Holy See, Albania, Montenegro and Serbia can enter and stay up to 90 days in every six months with just a biometric identity card. Nationals of countries that need a visa for Kosovo are exempt for up to 15 days if they hold a biometric residence permit from a Schengen State or a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa. Everyone else applies for a visa at a Kosovo mission. Stays beyond 90 days need a residence permit from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Apply on the official site →Required documents
- Passport or, for citizens of the EU and the other countries listed, a biometric identity card.
- If requested, evidence of the purpose of the stay and of sufficient funds.
- To continue to Serbia, a prior Serbian entry stamp or a route through a third country, usually North Macedonia.
Transit rules
Anyone driving a foreign vehicle has to buy local third-party insurance at the border or in the nearest town, according to the UK Government. There can be delays at the crossings with North Macedonia, Albania and Serbia, and tension between Serbia and Kosovo sometimes complicates crossings.
More Kosovo rules
They don't depend on your passport, so they are on the Kosovo page:
