Transit rules
After the military coup of 26 November 2025 the country is going through a period of instability, so avoid demonstrations and follow the news. Always carry ID, especially when driving or in a taxi, as the police ask for it often. Outside Bissau some areas still have landmines: stay on paved roads and marked tracks. Driving with any trace of alcohol can bring a fine and prison. The northern border with Casamance closes from 12:30 to 13:30 and from 18:00.
