Verified practical details
You don't need a visa to enter Burkina Faso, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:
Authorisation system
Electronic visa (e Visa) and travel form
Burkina Faso does not issue visas at the border. Since 1 February 2023 visas have mainly been granted electronically, on the Government's official platform, and the e Visa is printed and shown on arrival. Since 8 April 2026 every passenger has to complete the online "fiche de voyage" within the 72 hours before each entry and each departure. Professional journalism, photography or filming require a special authorisation requested together with the visa.
Required documents
- A valid passport; Spain's Foreign Ministry advises at least six months' validity.
- The fiche de voyage, completed online within the 72 hours before each entry and departure.
- International yellow fever vaccination certificate.
Transit rules
Spain's Foreign Ministry recommends not leaving Ouagadougou or Bobo-Dioulasso and advises entirely against travelling between the two cities by road: flying is preferable. Extremely violent armed gangs operate on the roads, especially at dawn, at dusk and at night. All border areas and most regions are rated extreme risk.
