How this visa is processed

India e-Visa at indianvisaonline.gov.in; for the sticker visa, the High Commission of India in Abuja or the Consulate General of India in Lagos

Nigerians need a visa for India and there is no visa on arrival, but most do not have to set foot in the High Commission: Nigeria is on the list of countries with access to India's e-Visa, applied for online at indianvisaonline.gov.in for tourism, business, medical treatment or conferences. It is applied for at least 4 days before arrival, with a passport valid for at least six months, and the authorisation (an ETA) arrives by email in about 3 to 5 working days. Applicants of Pakistani origin or nationality are excluded from the e-Visa and must use the regular visa. The sticker visa (long stays, categories not covered by the e-Visa) is processed at the High Commission of India in Abuja or the Consulate General of India in Lagos.

Verified practical details

You'll need to apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy before travelling. Here are the practical details we've verified:

Protected and restricted areas: different entry rules

An Indian visa is not enough to enter the areas declared protected or restricted under the Foreigners (Restricted Areas) Order, 1963. The list published by the High Commission of India covers all areas in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim, the whole Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Every foreigner except a citizen of Bhutan also needs a special permit from the competent authority, applied for through the e-FRRO portal and best requested thirty days ahead. The list has been amended several times, so check it before each trip.
