What we've verified for Andorra

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 2 October 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Andorra, updated 6 May 2026: documents by nationality, multiple-entry Schengen visa, vaccinations, snow and avalanches, cash, INSS health form); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/andorra (UK Government: travel through France or Spain, passport validity, permits beyond three months, guest registration, tobacco checks); sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es (Spanish Tax Agency leaflet for travellers arriving from Andorra: tobacco and alcohol allowances); data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 2 October 2026.

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Andorra rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

Vaccinations

  • No vaccinations are required for tourist travel, according to Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Customs limits

Cash
The most you can carry without declaring it on entry or exit is 9,999 euros, according to Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Alcohol
Andorra is not in the EU, so a specific allowance applies when returning to Spain, for travellers aged 17 or over: 1.5 litres of drinks over 22% or 3 litres under 22%, plus 5 litres of still wine and 16 of beer. Anything above that must be declared.
Tobacco
When returning to Spain, for travellers aged 17 or over: 300 cigarettes, or 150 cigarillos, or 75 cigars, or 400 grams of smoking tobacco. France and Spain closely watch tobacco leaving Andorra, and customs can impound the excess and the vehicle carrying it.

Overstay penalties

Staying longer than three months or working without a permit from the Immigration Department is not allowed. The specific penalty could not be confirmed against Andorran law. For travellers who need a Schengen visa, the days spent in the Schengen area are checked when they leave Andorra through France or Spain.

Grounds for refusal

  • Not holding a multiple-entry Schengen visa when your nationality requires one: without it you cannot leave Andorra and cross France or Spain again.
  • An expired ID card or passport.
  • Minors travelling with third parties without parental permission.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

Do you need a different visa for Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany, or Encamp?

No. Andorra sets the requirements, so entering through Andorra la Vella asks for the same as entering through Escaldes-Engordany or Encamp. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Andorra

Andorra has one property on the World Heritage List: the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, inscribed in 2004: steep slopes, glaciers, meadows and wooded valleys that cover 9% of the country and tell of millennia of herding in the Pyrenees. The country is almost all mountain, and most trips revolve around skiing in winter and hiking in summer, plus shopping in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs flags no areas to avoid, but rates the high mountains as medium risk in the harshest winter months or in poor visibility, especially for people who do not know the terrain. Before heading into the mountains, tell someone, carry a phone with a location app and check the avalanche bulletin.
