Verified practical details
You don't need a visa to enter Andorra, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:
Authorisation system
No visa of its own: entry is through France or Spain
Andorra issues no visas and has no entry procedure of its own, but it is not part of the Schengen area and can only be reached through France or Spain. Travellers who need a Schengen visa must hold a multiple-entry one: leaving Andorra means entering Schengen again, with the corresponding entry requirements, including registration in the Entry/Exit System (EES). Holding Andorran residence does not exempt you from meeting those requirements to cross France or Spain. To stay longer than three months, or to work, you must apply in person for a residence or work permit at the Andorran Immigration Department. Hotels and tourist flats register the passport details of every guest with the police.
Required documents
- EU citizens: valid national ID card or passport.
- Other nationalities: a valid passport meeting Schengen rules, issued within the previous ten years and valid for at least three months after the planned departure from the Schengen area.
- Minors travelling with third parties: besides their document, the parents' or guardians' permission to leave the country.
Transit rules
Andorra does not limit tourist stays with a visa, but a residence permit is needed beyond three months. In winter, snowfall can close roads and border crossings, and from 1 November to 15 May vehicles must carry the special equipment required by Andorran mobility rules. There is avalanche risk in the high mountains: the Government publishes a danger bulletin.
