What we've verified for Belarus

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 6 October 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Belarus, updated 23 June 2026: visa exemption until 31 December 2026, passport, registration, restricted areas, currency, customs, laws, Embassy in Moscow and Latvian consular protection); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/belarus (UK Government: 90 days a year and arrivals from Russia). All checked on 6 October 2026.

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Belarus rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

Customs limits

Cash
There is no limit on bringing money in or out, but more than 10,000 dollars (adding Russian roubles, other currencies, cheques and securities) must be declared, with the form stamped on entry so it can be taken out again. Above 100,000 dollars its origin must be documented.
Alcohol
Up to 3 litres, beer included, through the green channel. From 3 to 5 litres per person aged 18 or over, through the red channel with a declaration.

Overstay penalties

Going beyond the 30 days of the exemption or 90 a year requires a visa. A passport in poor condition or that does not meet the rules can mean an administrative fine and being unable to leave the country.

Grounds for refusal

  • A damaged passport, with loose pages or a photo that no longer resembles the holder.
  • Arriving directly from Russia without a visa.
  • Having exceeded 90 days of stay in the year.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

IATI sells its policies according to the country you live in. Where do you live?

Do you need a different visa for Minsk, Brest, or Grodno?

No. Belarus sets the requirements, so entering through Minsk asks for the same as entering through Brest or Grodno. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
