Verified practical details
You don't need a visa to enter Belarus, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:
Authorisation system
Temporary 30-day visa exemption
Belarus has extended until 31 December 2026 the visa exemption for citizens of 38 European countries for stays of up to 30 days. According to the UK Government, the total may not exceed 90 days per calendar year, and the exemption does not apply to anyone arriving from or leaving directly for Russia, who needs a visa. Outside those conditions a visa from the Belarusian Embassy is required.
Required documents
- Passport valid for at least six months from the return date, with two adjoining blank pages and in perfect condition: no loose pages or damage, and an up-to-date photo. The authorities are very strict, and a damaged passport can mean a fine, refusal at the border or being unable to leave.
- Registration with the police or on portal.gov.by within five working days, if the stay is longer than that. Hotels do it for their guests.
- Carry the passport at all times: it is compulsory and police checks are frequent.
Transit rules
Public buildings, military installations and uniformed staff must not be photographed without permission. Drug possession can carry severe prison sentences, and public displays of affection between people of the same sex can lead to fines, detention or deportation. The Ministry of Defence warns that disturbing the peace at memorials to Second World War victims is dealt with by the Army, not the Police.
