Do you need a different visa for La Paz, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, or Cochabamba?

No. Bolivia sets the requirements, so entering through La Paz asks for the same as entering through Santa Cruz de la Sierra or Cochabamba. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travelers to Bolivia

Bolivia is a country of high altitude and extreme landscapes, with few crowds. La Paz, the seat of government, is a city in a bowl at almost 3,600 m, with its network of urban cable cars and the witches' market. The big draw is the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world, which in the rainy season (December-March) turns into a mirror; around it, coloured lagoons and geysers on the way to the Chilean border. Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake, holds the Isla del Sol and Inca mythology, and nearby are the pre-Inca ruins of Tiwanaku, a World Heritage site. The colonial cities of Sucre and Potosí round out the route. Bolivia has 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites. Ten days cover La Paz, Titicaca and Uyuni, with room to acclimatize to the altitude. The dry season (May-October) is the most stable.
