What you need to enter Bolivia with a Danish passport

Fee

Only applies to Group 2 and Group 3 nationalities, which need a tourist visa. The exact amount varies by issuing consulate and hasn't been verified specifically.

Required documents

• Passport valid for at least 6 months
• Sworn declaration visa application form
• Yellow fever vaccination certificate, if visiting endemic-risk areas
• Travel itinerary or round-trip tickets
• Invitation letter from a Bolivia resident registered with DIGEMIG, or accommodation reservation
• Proof of financial means via bank statements and/or credit card
• 4x4 photo with red background
• DIGEMIG authorization resolution (Group III only)

Vaccinations

• No mandatory vaccines for general entry. A yellow fever certificate is required from travellers over 1 year of age arriving from —or having transited more than 12 hours through the airport of— a country with risk of transmission. The vaccine is also recommended for visiting parts of Bolivia east of the Andes below 2,300 m (the whole of Beni, Pando and Santa Cruz, and areas of Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, La Paz and Tarija); it is not recommended for the cities of La Paz and Sucre.

Transit rules

The tourist visa (Groups II and III) authorizes a 30-day stay, extendable up to two more times for an equal period at the corresponding Departmental Migration Administration.

Customs limits

Cash

Travelers must declare to the National Customs Authority, via Form No. 250, if carrying between US$10,000 and US$20,000 in cash or the equivalent in another currency; amounts over US$20,000 may only be moved through financial institutions regulated by the ASFI. Failing to declare, or declaring incorrectly, carries a 30% penalty on the difference detected.

Alcohol

Up to 3 liters of alcoholic beverages, within the traveler's duty-free allowance for new items of up to US$1,000.

Tobacco

Up to 400 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 500 grams of loose tobacco, within the same traveler's duty-free allowance of up to US$1,000.

Overstay penalties

Per Art. 37 of the Migration Law Regulation (Supreme Decree No. 1923), a foreigner's irregular stay in Bolivian territory is penalized with a fine of 12 UFV (Housing Development Units, a reference value updated daily) per day of overstay, or with a temporary mandatory departure for 3 years. Anyone who doesn't pay pecuniary sanctions within the period set by the migration authority cannot process a passport or leave the country.

Common reasons for denial

• Having served criminal sentences and being a repeat offender abroad.
• Being listed in international police records.
• Arriving with a passport that does not have at least 6 months of validity.
• Being a national of a Group II or III country without a tourism visa: Group III nationals additionally need prior consultation with the relevant DIGEMIG consular office.
• Not presenting the yellow fever vaccination certificate when visiting high-risk endemic areas, nor the sworn declaration for a temporary stay request obtained from the DIGEMIG website.
