What we've verified for Fiji

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 2 October 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Fiji, updated 3 June 2026: passport, onward ticket, four-month stay and extension, deportation, cyclones, earthquakes, drones, pets, cash, alcohol and tobacco allowances, biosecurity fine); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/fiji (UK Government, updated 10 August 2026: business visitor permit, yacht ports, yellow fever, X-rays, cash); eeas.europa.eu (EU Delegation to Fiji: Schengen visa requirement for Fijians); data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 2 October 2026.

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Fiji rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever: a certificate is required from travellers arriving from a country with risk of transmission.

Customs limits

Cash
Cash in any currency worth 10,000 Fijian dollars or more must be declared. Failing to declare it can lead to prosecution, a fine or a prison sentence.
Alcohol
For personal use: 2.25 litres of spirits, or 4.5 litres of wine, or 4.5 litres of beer, or a combination within those limits. Biosecurity is very strict: all luggage is X-rayed and leaving an item off the declaration brings an on-the-spot fine of up to 400 Fijian dollars.
Tobacco
250 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco in any form.

Overstay penalties

If the authorised stay is exceeded, the Fijian authorities can deport the person, according to Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The amount of any fine could not be confirmed against Fijian law.

Grounds for refusal

  • No onward ticket dated before the end of the stay.
  • A passport with less than six months' validity beyond planned departure.
  • Arriving from a yellow fever risk country without the certificate.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

IATI sells its policies according to the country you live in. Where do you live?

Do you need a different visa for Suva, Nadi, or Lautoka?

No. Fiji sets the requirements, so entering through Suva asks for the same as entering through Nadi or Lautoka. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Fiji

Fiji has one property on the World Heritage List: the historical port town of Levuka, on the island of Ovalau, inscribed in 2013, which was the first colonial capital and keeps its wooden houses and warehouses along the waterfront. It is an archipelago, and most trips are split between beaches, diving on coral reefs and the small islands reached from Nadi, where international flights land. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs flags no areas to avoid, but advises caution in unlit areas and the outer neighbourhoods of Suva and Nadi and not walking alone at night. The only decompression chamber for divers is in Suva, and the cyclone season runs from November to April.
