Guinea rules for every passport
Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller. Grounds for refusal depend on how you enter.
Vaccinations
- Yellow fever: Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the certificate is compulsory and required on arrival, and the e-visa platform asks for it as a document. The WHO limits it to travellers arriving from a country with risk of transmission, from six months of age (the Spanish Ministry of Health list says one year). In practice, travel vaccinated.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also recommends vaccination against hepatitis A and B, meningitis, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and typhoid.
Customs limits
- Cash
- There is no limit on bringing money in, but large amounts of foreign currency must be declared on arrival. On departure you cannot take more than 100,000 Guinean francs or more than 5,000 US dollars or the equivalent in euros. Guinean francs can only be exchanged inside the country, and changing money on the street is prohibited.
Grounds for refusal
Apply to: Visa-free
- A passport valid for six months or less on arrival.
- Not having a yellow fever certificate.
- Being unable to show sufficient funds or a return ticket.
Apply to: Visa on arrival, e-Visa
- A passport valid for six months or less on arrival.
- Arriving without the e-visa approval letter or with the wrong type of visa: the UK Government reports travellers refused entry for carrying the wrong one.
- Not having a yellow fever certificate.
- Being unable to show sufficient funds or a return ticket.
Travel insurance
Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

Do you need a different visa for Conakry, Kankan, or Nzérékoré?
No. Guinea sets the requirements, so entering through Conakry asks for the same as entering through Kankan or Nzérékoré. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.
What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
What draws travellers to Guinea
Guinea has a single property on the World Heritage List, the Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve, inscribed in 1981 and shared with Côte d'Ivoire. It is on the List of World Heritage in Danger. The trip needs careful planning: Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends travelling with caution, checking the state of the route before each journey, avoiding demonstrations and gatherings, especially around elections, and keeping away from military camps and security zones such as the Presidential Palace. Health care outside Conakry is very limited, so it considers insurance with repatriation essential.
