Do you need a different visa for Jakarta, Bali, or Surabaya?
No. Indonesia sets the requirements, so entering through Jakarta asks for the same as entering through Bali or Surabaya. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.
What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
What draws travelers to Indonesia
Indonesia is a huge archipelago; a trip almost always centres on Java and Bali, linked by short flights. Java is the cultural heart: the temples of Borobudur — the largest Buddhist temple in the world — and Prambanan, both World Heritage, and volcanoes such as Bromo or Ijen. Bali adds the rice terraces of Ubud, the seaside temples and the southern beaches. Beyond that, Komodo National Park, a World Heritage site, with its dragons and its diving, and islands such as Flores or Sumatra are add-ons. Indonesia has around 10 UNESCO World Heritage sites, plus batik and gamelan as Intangible Heritage. Ten days cover Java plus Bali. The dry season (April-October) is best; from November to March it rains heavily almost daily.
