What we've verified for Ivory Coast

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 23 September 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation for Côte d'Ivoire, updated 9 June 2025: passport validity, e-visa with a EUR 73 fee and approved pre-registration, EUR 50 embassy visa, extension at the Sûreté Nationale, vaccinations, 500,000 CFA franc export limit, works of art and ivory, areas to avoid); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/cote-d-ivoire (UK Government: 10 working days, cash import limit, Ebola screening); who.int (WHO) and sanidad.gob.es (Spain's Ministry of Health, "Listado de países"): yellow fever; data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 23 September 2026. Also: gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/cote-d-ivoire (UK Government: e-Visa at least 10 working days ahead and collection in Abidjan; re-read on 25 September 2026).

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Base entry rules refreshed 12 October 2026. Published: 24 September 2026.

Ivory Coast rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller. Grounds for refusal depend on how you enter.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever: an international vaccination certificate is required from all travellers over nine months of age, wherever they arrive from.
  • Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also recommends vaccination against hepatitis A and B, typhoid, tetanus, meningitis, polio and diphtheria.

Customs limits

Cash
You can bring in up to 500,000 CFA francs in cash and must declare any foreign currency. On departure you can only take 500,000 CFA francs (about 762 euros). Works of art and antiques need a permit from the Directorate General of Customs to enter or leave, and trade in any ivory item is prohibited.

Grounds for refusal

Apply to: Visa-free

  • A passport valid for less than six months for the whole trip.
  • Not showing the yellow fever vaccination card at the airport.

Apply to: Electronic authorisation (ETA)

  • Arriving without the printed confirmation of approved pre-registration: it can mean refusal of entry and immediate return.
  • A passport valid for less than six months for the whole trip.
  • Not showing the yellow fever vaccination card at the airport.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

See IATI's international site →

IATI sells its policies according to the country you live in. Where do you live?

Do you need a different visa for Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, or Bouaké?

No. Ivory Coast sets the requirements, so entering through Abidjan asks for the same as entering through Yamoussoukro or Bouaké. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Ivory Coast

Côte d'Ivoire has five properties on the World Heritage List. On the coast lies the historic town of Grand-Bassam, the first colonial capital and once the country's main port, inscribed in 2012. In the north, eight small Sudanese-style adobe mosques, with protruding timbers and spindle-shaped minarets, were added in 2021. The other three are natural sites: Taï National Park (1982), one of the last large primary forests in West Africa, Comoé National Park (1983) and the Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve (1981), shared with Guinea and on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently advises against travel to Comoé park and to the north of the Zanzan, Savanes and Denguélé regions, because of the terrorist threat along the border with Burkina Faso and Mali, and urges caution when swimming on the coast because of the currents.
