All checked on 6 October 2026.

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. Marshall Islands rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

Vaccinations

  • Measles: Spain's Foreign Ministry lists it as compulsory from 6 months to 62 years old; the UK Government asks for proof of MMR for children aged 4 and under.
  • Yellow fever, cholera and smallpox: the certificate is only required from travellers arriving from affected areas.

Customs limits

Cash
Amounts of 10,000 US dollars or more, in any currency, must be declared on entry and exit.
Alcohol
2 litres of liquor, for travellers aged 18 and over, according to the UK Government.
Tobacco
Two half-cartons of cigarettes and 8 ounces of chewing tobacco, for travellers aged 18 and over, according to the UK Government.

Overstay penalties

Extending a stay requires a return ticket or the funds to pay for one, and Spain's Foreign Ministry recommends contacting OCIT well in advance.

Grounds for refusal

  • A passport with less than six months' validity.
  • Having no return or onward ticket.
  • Arriving without proof of measles vaccination.
  • Changing planes in Guam or Hawaii without a US ESTA authorisation.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

Do you need a different visa for Majuro, Ebeye, or Arno?

No. Marshall Islands sets the requirements, so entering through Majuro asks for the same as entering through Ebeye or Arno. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Marshall Islands

Bikini Atoll joined the World Heritage List in 2010 as a record of the nuclear age. After evacuating its inhabitants, the United States carried out 67 nuclear explosions there between 1946 and 1958, including the first H-bomb in 1952. The ships sunk in the lagoon during the 1946 tests remain, along with the crater of the largest test, Operation Castle Bravo, seven thousand times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. Spain's Foreign Ministry warns that Bikini still has very high radioactivity, and advises avoiding the rainy season, from July to November.
