What to do if you are refused entry →

Do you need a different visa for Port Moresby, Lae, or Madang?

No. Papua New Guinea sets the requirements, so entering through Port Moresby asks for the same as entering through Lae or Madang. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea has one property on the World Heritage List: the Kuk Early Agricultural Site, inscribed in 2008, wetlands at 1,500 metres in the highlands that have been farmed almost continuously for 7,000 to 10,000 years. Tourist travel is not advisable today. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against tourist trips and limits other travel to the strictly necessary: it rates the whole country as risky because of crime and violence, very high in Port Moresby and Lae, especially at night, and asks for special precautions on Bougainville, on the Kokoda Track, where armed attacks on tourists are frequent, and in the highlands, where tribal violence is extreme.
