Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Saint Lucia, updated 22 May 2026: passport, return ticket, no visa for EU citizens, departure tax, yellow fever, camouflage clothing, sailors, hurricanes, risk areas, cash); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/st-lucia (UK Government: online form, stamps, six weeks for British citizens, extensions in Castries, overstaying); stlucia.org (Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, "Plan your trip": alcohol and tobacco allowances); data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 2 October 2026.

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Saint Lucia rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever: the authorities may require the certificate from travellers who have been in a country with risk of transmission.

Customs limits

Cash
Bringing in or taking out more than 10,000 US dollars in any currency or means of payment must be declared. The declaration is free.
Alcohol
Allowance for arriving passengers: 40 fluid ounces (just over a litre) of wine or spirits.
Tobacco
200 cigarettes, or half a pound (about 225 grams) of tobacco, or 50 cigars.

Overstay penalties

Overstaying or working without a work permit is illegal, according to the UK Government. The amount of the penalties could not be confirmed against Saint Lucian law.

Grounds for refusal

  • No return ticket.
  • A passport with less than six months' validity.
  • Arriving from a yellow fever risk country without the certificate.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

Do you need a different visa for Castries, Gros Islet, or Soufrière?

No. Saint Lucia sets the requirements, so entering through Castries asks for the same as entering through Gros Islet or Soufrière. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia has one property on the World Heritage List: the Pitons Management Area, inscribed in 2004, with the two volcanic peaks that rise from the sea near Soufrière and the reefs along that coast. It is a volcanic, mountainous island in the Lesser Antilles, and most trips revolve around beaches, diving and hiking in the interior. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs asks travellers to avoid Gros Islet and Castries at night, to take care walking in Rodney Bay at night and on any isolated beach, and to keep an eye on belongings at crowded parties such as the Friday one in Gros Islet. Hospital care is limited, and serious cases are evacuated to Martinique.
