What we've verified for Seychelles

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 25 September 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Seychelles, updated 28 July 2026: travel authorisation, requirements, visitor's permit, pleasure boats, business, driving licence, maritime risk areas, rains, currents, yellow fever and polio); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/seychelles (UK Government: paid authorisation up to 30 days ahead, express service, free three-month permit, extensions up to 12 months, insurance at the border, SCR 50,000 declaration); sanidad.gob.es ("Listado de países") and who.int (WHO): yellow fever; data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 25 September 2026. Also: src.gov.sc (Seychelles Revenue Commission, "Customs Instructions for Passengers" brochure of December 2022, PDF: alcohol and tobacco allowances; ).

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Seychelles rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever: a certificate is required from travellers over one year of age arriving from a country with risk of transmission and from those who have transited through an airport in one of them. Travellers coming from an area where polio is endemic or epidemic may also be asked for a polio vaccination certificate.

Customs limits

Cash
Anyone carrying cash worth 50,000 Seychellois rupees or more must declare it when applying for the travel authorisation.
Alcohol
2 litres of drinks up to 16% (beer, wine, sparkling wine) and 2 litres above 16% (whisky, rum, gin, liqueurs), or 4 litres of drinks at 16% or under. Anything above that must be declared; failing to do so can lead to fines, seizure or criminal prosecution.
Tobacco
200 grams of cigarettes, or 200 grams of other tobacco products, or 50 cigars, or 100 cigarillos, according to the Revenue Commission brochure of December 2022. Under-18s may not bring in alcohol or tobacco.

Grounds for refusal

  • Boarding without an approved travel authorisation.
  • Not showing accommodation for the whole stay.
  • No return or onward ticket or sufficient funds.
  • Arriving from a yellow fever risk country without the certificate.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

IATI sells its policies according to the country you live in. Where do you live?

Do you need a different visa for Victoria, Praslin, or La Digue?

No. Seychelles sets the requirements, so entering through Victoria asks for the same as entering through Praslin or La Digue. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Seychelles

Seychelles has two natural properties on the World Heritage List. The Vallée de Mai reserve, on Praslin, protects the palm forest where the coco de mer grows, the largest seed in the plant kingdom. Aldabra Atoll, far to the south-west, is one of the largest raised coral atolls and is home to a huge population of giant tortoises, with very restricted access. The usual trip combines Mahé, the main island, with Praslin and La Digue, with its granite boulders over the beaches. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns of strong currents at some beaches, especially from November to March, with drownings in recent years, of narrow, poorly lit roads and of torrential rain from December to February.
