Singapore entry requirements, by passport

Vaccinations

• No mandatory vaccines for general entry. A yellow fever certificate is required from travellers over 1 year of age who, within the previous 6 days, have been in (or transited more than 12 hours through the airport of) a country with risk of transmission.

Customs limits

Cash

Declare if cash, traveller's cheques or other bearer negotiable instruments exceed 20,000 SGD (or the equivalent in foreign currency).

Alcohol

Up to 2 litres in total, choosing one combination: 1 L of spirits and 1 L of wine, 1 L of spirits and 1 L of beer, 1 L of wine and 1 L of beer, 2 L of wine or 2 L of beer. Only for those aged 18 or over who have spent at least 48 hours outside Singapore, and for personal consumption. No concession if arriving from Malaysia.

Tobacco

No duty-free exemption for any tobacco product: every cigarette must be declared and is taxed.

Overstay penalties

Up to 90 days of overstay: a fine of up to 4,000 SGD and/or up to 6 months in prison. More than 90 days: up to 6 months in prison plus a minimum of 3 strokes of the cane (or a fine of up to 6,000 SGD if corporal punishment doesn't apply). According to the ICA, after sentencing or payment of the fine an arrested offender is deported and barred from re-entering Singapore.

Grounds for refusal

• Not having submitted the SG Arrival Card: the ICA expressly warns that entry may be refused on that ground.
• Not holding a passport with the required minimum of 6 months of validity.
• Being unable to show enough money for the stay or proof of onward travel.
