Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Singapore, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Authorization system

SG Arrival Card (SGAC) — not a visa

Digital arrival card that replaced the old paper landing/embarkation card. Free. Submitted up to 3 days before arrival, also available via the official "MyICA" app.

Apply on the official site →

Fee

Free

The SGAC is free. The visa fee, when the passport's country of origin requires one, depends on nationality and hasn't been verified.

Processing time

Every traveller submits the arrival card, with or without a visa, within the three days before arrival, counting the day of arrival itself: land on the 30th and you can submit from the 28th. The ICA notes that it is free and that it does not endorse services charging to fill it in for you.

Required documents

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months, required of every traveller who is not a Singapore passport holder
  • An SG Arrival Card submitted within the 3 days before arrival (counting the day of arrival). Travellers merely transiting without clearing immigration are exempt. Failing to submit it can cost you entry
  • Enough money for the stay and proof of onward travel (tickets and, where needed, visas for the next destination)

Vaccinations

  • No mandatory vaccines for general entry. A yellow fever certificate is required from travellers over 1 year of age who, within the previous 6 days, have been in —or transited more than 12 hours through the airport of— a country with risk of transmission.

Health insurance

Not mandatory for this destination.

Transit rules

Singapore runs a 96-hour Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) for travellers in transit to or from a third country. Nationality alone is not enough: you need an onward ticket — air, ferry or cruise — leaving Singapore within those 96 hours, plus a valid visa or long-term pass from Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States, valid for at least one month from your entry. You may arrive by any mode of transport but must leave by air. A VFTF stay cannot be extended under any circumstances, and the ICA officer decides admission at the checkpoint itself.

Customs limits

Cash
Declare if cash, traveler's checks, or other negotiable instruments exceed 20,000 SGD.
Alcohol
1L of spirits + 1L of wine + 1L of beer (3L total), only after 48h or more outside Singapore, for those over 18. ZERO exemption if arriving from Malaysia.
Tobacco
No duty-free exemption for any tobacco product — every cigarette must be declared and is taxed.

Overstay penalties

Up to 90 days of overstay: a fine of up to 4,000 SGD and/or up to 6 months in prison. More than 90 days: up to 6 months in prison plus a minimum of 3 strokes of the cane (or a fine of up to 6,000 SGD if corporal punishment doesn't apply). Deportation and a re-entry ban, which in serious cases can be permanent.

Common reasons for denial

  • Not having submitted the SG Arrival Card: the ICA expressly warns that entry may be refused on that ground.
  • Not holding a passport with the required minimum of 6 months of validity.
  • Being unable to show enough money for the stay or proof of onward travel.
