What we've verified for Solomon Islands

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 3 October 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: immigration.gov.sb (Solomon Islands Immigration Division: tourist visa, fees, extension, electronic portal, mutual exemption with the EU); exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Solomon Islands, updated 15 April 2026: 90 days with no prior visa, passport validity, vaccinations, currency, security, laws); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/solomon-islands (UK Government: blank pages). All checked on 3 October 2026. The alcohol and tobacco allowances could not be confirmed against an official source.

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Solomon Islands rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller. Grounds for refusal depend on how you enter.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever: only for travellers arriving from countries with risk of transmission.
  • Measles: compulsory, at least 15 days ahead, for anyone arriving from Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Samoa, Tonga, the Philippines, Fiji, Kiribati or Papua New Guinea, even in transit. Without it, boarding is refused or the traveller is deported.

Customs limits

Cash
Amounts of 50,000 Solomon Islands dollars or more must be declared. Only the large hotels in Honiara accept international cards.

Overstay penalties

Extensions beyond the first three months are requested before the visa expires, at the Immigration Division visa counter, and cost 100 dollars. The Division warns that overstaying may lead to penalties or future entry restrictions.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

Do you need a different visa for Honiara, Auki, or Gizo?

No. Solomon Islands sets the requirements, so entering through Honiara asks for the same as entering through Auki or Gizo. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Solomon Islands

East Rennell, on the World Heritage List since 1998, covers the southern third of Rennell Island, the largest raised coral atoll in the world. Its former lagoon is now Lake Tegano, 15,500 hectares of brackish water and the largest lake in the Pacific islands, with limestone islets holding endemic species under dense forest. UNESCO lists it as World Heritage in Danger. Spain's Foreign Ministry asks for extra caution in Honiara, no night outings and local advice before swimming because of crocodiles and sharks, and notes that some areas still have unexploded Second World War ordnance.
