Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Togo, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Savanes region (north): different entry rules

The Togolese Government has kept a state of emergency in the Savanes region since 2022. Foreigners need prior authorisation from the Ministry of Defence to go there, requested at least 30 days in advance. Spain's Foreign Ministry rates it as high risk and advises against travel except for compelling reasons; the tri-border areas with Burkina Faso, Benin and Ghana and the Cinkassé and Mandouri crossings are very high risk.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least six months.
  • Registration certificate completed online before arrival and before departure.
  • International yellow fever vaccination certificate.

Transit rules

Stays of more than 90 days require a long-stay visa or a resident card. Spain's Foreign Ministry advises against travelling at night because roads are in poor condition and badly signposted, and for security reasons. Internet fraud from Togo, financial or romantic, is common. Same-sex relations are illegal.
