Togo rules for every passport
Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller.

- There are no controls on bringing currency in or out, according to Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The currency is the CFA franc, at a fixed rate to the euro (1 euro = 655.96 CFA francs).
Overstay penalties
The penalty for staying longer than authorised could not be confirmed against an official Togolese source.
Grounds for refusal
- Arriving without an e-Visa: Togo no longer issues visas at the border.
- Not carrying the yellow fever vaccination certificate.
- A passport with less than six months' validity.

Savanes region (north): what changes
The Togolese Government has kept a state of emergency in the Savanes region since 2022. Foreigners need prior authorisation from the Ministry of Defence to go there, requested at least 30 days in advance. Spain's Foreign Ministry rates it as high risk and advises against travel except for compelling reasons; the tri-border areas with Burkina Faso, Benin and Ghana and the Cinkassé and Mandouri crossings are very high risk.

Do you need a different visa for Lomé, Kara, or Sokodé?
No. Togo sets the requirements, so entering through Lomé asks for the same as entering through Kara or Sokodé. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.
With one exception, explained above: the rules for Savanes region (north) are not the rules for the rest of Togo.
What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
What draws travellers to Togo
Togo has one property on the World Heritage List: Koutammakou, the land of the Batammariba, inscribed in 2004 and shared with Benin, a cultural landscape in the north-east whose mud tower-houses, the takienta, give the area its character. The capital, Lomé, is on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises travelling with caution: it rates the whole country as medium risk, asks travellers not to travel at night and advises against the north because of the terrorist threat coming from Burkina Faso, especially the Savanes region and the tri-border areas.
