Savanes region (north): different entry rules
The Togolese Government has kept a state of emergency in the Savanes region since 2022. Foreigners need prior authorisation from the Ministry of Defence to go there, requested at least 30 days in advance. Spain's Foreign Ministry rates it as high risk and advises against travel except for compelling reasons; the tri-border areas with Burkina Faso, Benin and Ghana and the Cinkassé and Mandouri crossings are very high risk.

e-Visa on the Togo Voyage platform
Since April 2024 Togo no longer issues visas on arrival, under the new law on the policing of foreigners: visas are only requested online on the official Togo Voyage platform. The platform asks for applications at least five days before arrival and takes no more than five working days to process them. The system issues short-stay visas of one to 90 days, which can be extended in the country at the National Gendarmerie with two photos, a stated reason and a fee. A visa is also needed to travel through the country. Before arriving and before leaving you must complete an online registration certificate.

Transit rules
Stays of more than 90 days require a long-stay visa or a resident card. Spain's Foreign Ministry advises against travelling at night because roads are in poor condition and badly signposted, and for security reasons. Internet fraud from Togo, financial or romantic, is common. Same-sex relations are illegal.
