Authorization system

eVisa (replaced the Tourist Card as of July 2025)

Electronic entry authorization required for virtually every nationality traveling to Cuba (including those that previously used the paper Tourist Card, discontinued in July 2025). In addition to the eVisa, every traveler must complete the D'Viajeros form (dviajeros.mitrans.gob.cu) before arrival, with personal, flight and customs-declaration data; completing it generates a QR code shown at immigration control.

Fee

EUR 22.00

Base fee of €22 confirmed by the Cuban Consulate in Madrid for European applicants; the amount varies by nationality (for example, USD 50 for US citizens). Paid by credit or debit card on the official platform.

Processing time

Up to 72 hours after the online application is submitted; the D'Viajeros form must be submitted at least 48 hours before arrival.

• Travel medical insurance covering the entire stay
• Onward or return ticket

Vaccinations

• No mandatory vaccines for entry: no international certificate of vaccination (yellow fever included) is required under the International Health Regulations.

Transit rules

The eVisa generally authorizes tourist stays of up to 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days through Immigration within the country.

Customs limits

Cash

Declare to Customs if carrying US$5,000 or more in cash (or the equivalent); larger amounts require prior authorization.

Alcohol

Up to 2,500 cm³ of alcoholic beverages per adult, duty-free.

Tobacco

Up to 400 cigarettes, 50 cigars, or 500 grams of pipe tobacco per adult, duty-free (per Resolution 206-207-208/2014 of the General Customs Office, as cited by secondary sources — not verified against the resolution's official text).

Overstay penalties

Starting November 2026, new Laws 171, 172 and 173/2024 (Migration, Citizenship and Foreigners, Official Gazette No. 39 Ordinary of 2026) take effect, expanding fines for migration violations — including overstaying an authorized stay — to a range of 12,000 to 80,000 CUP, reduced 25% if paid within 3 business days of notification and doubled if unpaid after 30 calendar days. As these aren't yet in force as of the verification date, confirm before traveling.

Common reasons for denial

• Not presenting the D’Viajeros QR code: the digital entry form must be completed within the 72 hours before entering Cuban territory, and the QR code it generates is shown to the migration authority.
• Holding a passport that does not cover six months of validity beyond your departure from Cuba.
• Travelling without a valid tourist card: it is single-entry, covers 30 days extendable by another 30 before the migration authority, and minors need their own even when listed in their parents’ passports.
