e-Visa (Pakistan Online Visa System)

Since 1 January 2026, the former free "Visa Prior to Arrival" (VPA) exemption for 126 countries was suspended: a paid e-Visa applied for online at visa.nadra.gov.pk is now required, with an indicative processing time of 7-10 business days. Fee

The fee is charged "on a reciprocal basis" and varies a lot by nationality (e.g.: free for China or Malaysia, US$60 for the US, UK, Canada or Australia, US$50 for Germany, per DGIP's table). No specific figure for Spanish passport holders was found, and the official table located is outdated (last modified in 2023, before the January 2026 reform) — use the official fee calculator at visa.nadra.gov.pk/evisaFee/ before applying. On top of the base fee, a 10% "PCW&E" surcharge, a 10% "FIGOB" surcharge, an $8 NADRA service charge and a 2.2% bank fee apply.

Required documents

• Passport valid for the whole stay, the online form at visa.nadra.gov.pk, and a digital passport-style photo.
• For the "visit" visa to family or friends (not the standard tourist e-visa): a signed invitation letter from the host in Pakistan, with a copy of their ID, address and phone number — don't confuse the two categories when applying.

Vaccinations

• There is no yellow fever risk in Pakistan, but an international vaccination certificate IS required for anyone arriving from a country with risk of transmission (WHO list: most of Sub-Saharan Africa and several South American countries) or who has transited more than 12 hours through an airport in one of those countries.

Health insurance

Not mandatory for this destination.

Transit rules

Pakistan's transit visa only allows you to pass through the country, not to stay in it. For Indian nationals travelling to India by air or sea through Pakistan, it is issued for up to two entries with a 72-hour stay in the city or port of entry.

Customs limits

Cash

There is no declared limit on entering with foreign currency, but above US$10,000 (or equivalent) it must be declared to customs. On leaving the country, the limit for taking out foreign currency is also US$10,000; for Pakistani rupees (PKR) the exit limit is PKR 10,000. This figure could not be confirmed via direct fetch to fbr.gov.pk (the page doesn't offer the detail in plain text); several specialized travel sources converge on it.

Alcohol

Importing alcoholic beverages is entirely prohibited for residents and non-residents alike, regardless of nationality — no personal allowance is admitted. Bringing alcohol in luggage is illegal: it can be confiscated and lead to a penalty.

Tobacco

200 cigarettes or 50 cigars duty-free for adults 18+, per converging travel sources (not confirmed via direct fetch to fbr.gov.pk).

Overstay penalties

Anyone who stays beyond their visa's validity must obtain an "Exit Permit" through the Pakistan Online Visa System before they can leave the country — up to one year of overstay is processed online, more than a year requires a manual procedure. The fee isn't fixed: it's calculated by nationality and days of overstay through an official tool (a general amount could not be confirmed). Once issued, the exit permit is valid for 15 days to leave the country.

Common reasons for denial

• Your antecedents justifying the apprehension that your presence in Pakistan would be prejudicial to the country’s interests: the application is rejected outright.
• The authority may refuse the online visa service to any person WITHOUT giving a reason, in particular to prevent fraud or anti-state activity or to comply with applicable law.
• Worth bearing in mind even with a granted visa: the final decision on entry rests with the immigration officer at the port of entry, who can refuse it despite a valid visa.
