Verified practical details

The visa is applied for before your trip, and the procedure is ANRPTS electronic visa (e-visa). Here are the verified details:

Authorisation system

ANRPTS electronic visa (e-visa)

Since 5 January 2025 the visa can only be requested online, on the website of the National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles (ANRPTS), and it must be issued before boarding for Mauritania. The fee is paid on arrival, in cash and in the exact amount in euros or US dollars, as no change is given. Biometric data are taken at the port of entry. Carry a printed copy of the e-visa.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for more than six months. With less, the authorities do not issue the visa and entry is impossible.
  • Electronic visa issued before boarding, printed, and the exact fee in cash (euros or US dollars).
  • If entering with your own vehicle, compulsory Mauritanian insurance for the car before driving.

Transit rules

Anyone entering overland from Western Sahara crosses about 10 kilometres of track through no man's land between the last Moroccan post and the first Mauritanian one, with edges that may be mined: Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises staying on the track and refusing the self-styled guides who offer their services there. Police ask for documents at road checkpoints, and for long journeys the Ministry recommends carrying several copies of a route sheet with passport and vehicle details.
