What you need to enter Argentina with a Honduran passport

Authorization system

AVE — Electronic Travel Authorisation

The AVE is the electronic route that Argentina's National Migration Directorate offers to nationals of more than seventy countries who would otherwise need a tourist visa. Nationality alone is not enough: you must also hold a valid US visa in category B2, J, B1, O, P (P1, P2 or P3), E or H-1B, or show that you entered the United States within the previous two years. Once issued it is valid for three consecutive months, allows multiple entries and exits, and can be extended for a further equal period.

Fee

Tourist entry has no fee for the passports we track (no paid electronic authorization system like an ETA/eVisa). There's a fee of roughly ARS 40,000 for regularization when leaving the country after overstaying — see sanciones_overstay.

Processing time

Argentina's National Migration Directorate must decide an AVE application within twenty working days for the tourist subcategory.

Required documents

• A valid passport, or a valid identity card or travel document from your country of origin
• If you are a national of Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay or Uruguay (Mercosur member states) or of Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Panama, Peru or Suriname (associated states), you may enter as a tourist without a visa for up to 90 days on your identity document
• The authorised tourist stay is up to three months, extendable for a further equal period. Entering as a tourist does not entitle you to paid work

Vaccinations

• No mandatory vaccines for entering Argentina. The yellow fever vaccine is recommended for travellers over 9 months of age visiting the provinces of Corrientes and Misiones (including the Iguazú Falls); it is not recommended for the other usual tourist destinations. Some countries require a yellow fever certificate from travellers who have previously been in risk areas of Argentina.

General 90-day tourist stay, extendable once for another 90 days through Migraciones (approximate fee not verified against an official source).

Customs limits

Cash

Declare to customs (ARCA/formerly AFIP) if entering or leaving Argentina with USD 10,000 or more in cash (or the equivalent), using form OM 2249-A.

Alcohol

Argentina’s baggage regime (General Resolution 3751/1994 and amendments) is value-based: a US$500 allowance by air or sea, US$300 by land or river, plus an extra US$500 for purchases at the arrival free shop. The official pages do not publish a specific litre limit for alcohol for personal use.

Tobacco

Same as alcohol: the general value-based allowance applies (US$500 air or sea, US$300 land or river, plus US$500 free shop), with no specific cigarette count published on ARCA’s official pages.

Overstay penalties

Staying beyond your authorised period leaves you in irregular status and triggers a fee. If you come forward voluntarily and of your own accord within thirty days of that period expiring, a 50% surcharge is applied to the fee for extending your stay or changing migration category.

Common reasons for denial

• Falling under one of the entry impediments in Article 29 of Law 25,871: refusal carries an implicit ban on re-entering the country of no less than five years, graded according to the seriousness of the cause.
• Presenting materially or ideologically false documentation, or documentation containing forged attestations: the re-entry ban is five years.
• Attempting to enter with identity documentation that does not meet the conditions required by current legislation: Migraciones proceeds to immediate refusal at the border.
• It is worth knowing how to appeal: entry-refusal decisions can only be appealed from outside the country, by petition to Argentine diplomatic missions. This is not something you can sort out at the airport itself.
