Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Angola, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Authorisation system

Tourist visa exemption (Presidential Decree 189/23) or SME visa

Since 1 October 2023, Presidential Decree 189/23 has exempted nationals of the countries it lists from the tourist visa, for stays of up to 30 consecutive days per entry and 90 days a year. The exemption covers tourism only: study, work, residence or temporary stays still require a visa. Travelling on the wrong visa can mean being refused boarding or detained at the airport.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least six months with two blank pages for possible renewals.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate: entry and exit may be subject to health checks.
  • Return ticket: many airlines require it from visa-exempt tourists and do not accept a simple reservation.

Transit rules

Ordinary visas are issued for up to 30 days and the SME can extend them to 90, a procedure that takes time. On 23 May 2026 Africa CDC listed Angola among the high-risk countries because of the Ebola epidemic in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, so there may be health checks at the border.
