Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Cape Verde, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Authorisation system

EASE (mandatory pre-registration) + Visa

Every traveller, including those who are visa-exempt, must complete EASE pre-registration and pay the Airport Security Tax (TSA) there, preferably 5 days in advance. Among those exempt are children under 2, residents of Cape Verde and holders of a Cape Verdean passport. Anyone arriving without pre-registration does it at the border and pays the tax plus a penalty surcharge. Since 1 January 2026, nationals of the 91 countries on the official mandatory-visa list must obtain a visa from an embassy or consulate before arrival, including for transit or an airport stopover; without it, entry is refused. If a nationality appears on neither that list nor the list of exempt countries, the Government refers travellers to the nearest Cape Verdean embassy or consulate.

Fee

3,400 CVE

Airport Security Tax (TSA) on international flights: CVE 3,400, paid when completing EASE pre-registration. Anyone who does not do it before travelling pays the tax at the border plus a penalty surcharge, whose amount is not published by any official source we consulted. Children under 2, transit passengers and residents of Cape Verde, among others, are exempt. The consular visa, for those who need one, is paid separately at the embassy or consulate; as an example, Cape Verde's embassy in the United States charges USD 60 for a single entry and USD 114 for multiple entries.

Required documents

  • Valid passport
  • EASE pre-registration completed before travel (preferably 5 days in advance), with the TSA paid
  • Visa obtained before travelling, for nationals of the countries on the official mandatory-visa list (since 1 January 2026)

Transit rules

The official list of visa-exempt countries sets the maximum stay by nationality: 30 days for European Union countries, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, the United States, Canada, Brazil and China, among others; 90 days for several ECOWAS countries, South Korea and Macau; 60 days for Russia and São Tomé and Príncipe; 180 days for Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Ukraine. All of them must still complete EASE pre-registration. According to the Government single portal, visa-exempt travellers who want to stay longer must apply for a visa at the nearest Cape Verdean embassy or consulate. Those who already hold a visa and want to extend their stay apply to the Direção de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (or, where there is none, the National Police) before the visa expires.
