How this visa is processed

Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in Rabat

Moroccans need a visa for Japan, and there is no outsourced centre in Morocco: the file is handed in person at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in Rabat, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 11:30, with the national identity card to get in. The Embassy asks applicants to start at least two weeks before travel. The form is completed in English, on a computer, and documents are handed in as originals, without staples. The applicant then returns on the date the consulate gives to hear the outcome and, if it is positive, to collect and pay for the visa: 940 dirhams for a single-entry visa, the rate in force from 1 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. For a self-funded tourist trip, the Embassy accepts as proof of income an official statement (the DOTI or the CNSS salary declaration) or monthly bank statements for the last four months, which cannot be replaced by a transaction list. The stay programme (taizai yoteihyo) is submitted in French or Japanese, on the template the Embassy publishes and never handwritten. Consular Section telephone: 0537 63 17 82 to 85.

Verified practical details

You'll need to apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy before travelling. Here are the practical details we've verified:

Required documents

  • A passport valid, at the least, for the whole of your stay in Japan.
  • A valid visa if your nationality requires one. Nationals of visa-exempt countries do not need one for a temporary stay.
  • A return ticket with a confirmed date (e-tickets are accepted) or an onward ticket to another country.
  • Travel documentation, such as hotel bookings or conference details, and proof of sufficient funds.
  • Permission to enter is decided by the Japanese immigration authority, even if you have a visa.

Health insurance

Not mandatory for this destination.

Transit rules

Japan has its own mechanism for transit: the transit landing permission. If you are travelling onward to a destination outside Japan, it lets you land temporarily for up to 72 hours to rest or shop in the vicinity of the port or airport of call. There is a useful variant where your itinerary is not a round trip through the same place: you may make a stop and leave Japan from another port of entry and departure near the one you arrived at, within three days.
