Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Taiwan, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Authorisation system

Visa exemption up to 90 days and online arrival card (TWAC)

Within the three days before arrival you must complete the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) online on the National Immigration Agency website; holders of a resident visa or residence card (ARC or APRC) are exempt. A visa-free stay can be extended by another 90 days once in Taiwan, but not automatically for every visa-exempt nationality, so check with the Bureau of Consular Affairs. Anyone staying longer than 180 days needs a visa before arriving.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for more than six months from entry. Without that, entry is refused.
  • A ticket out of Taiwan to any destination: the authorities usually ask for it on arrival, except from residence card (ARC) holders.
  • Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) submitted online within the three days before arrival.

Transit rules

Anyone who stays beyond the time granted is fined and may be deported, with possible restrictions on re-entry. Taiwan is in a highly seismic zone: the magnitude 7.4 earthquake near Hualien on 3 April 2024 caused landslides in Taroko National Park, which has only partly reopened. Typhoons are frequent from June to October.
