Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Rwanda, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry, with one blank page.
  • Do not bring plastic bags, which are banned and can be confiscated on arrival, or e-cigarettes and vapes.
  • Declare drones on arrival: they can be held until departure, and using one requires a special permit.

Transit rules

The transit visa covers up to 72 hours and requires leaving through the same border post you entered by; leaving through another needs a tourist visa. Because of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo there is health screening at Kigali airport and restrictions at the border with that country, and the opening hours of the Gisenyi-Goma and Cyangugu-Bukavu crossings vary.
