What you need to enter South Korea with a Singaporean passport

Authorization system

K-ETA (currently exempt for 22 countries until 31/12/2026)

Managed by the Ministry of Justice. The temporary K-ETA exemption has been extended until 31 December 2026 for 22 countries (including the US, the UK, Japan, Canada, and most of the EU) — it will become mandatory again on 1 January 2027 unless extended further: verify the current status before publishing content with an expiration date. Only apply at k-eta.go.kr or the official "K-ETA" app; there are third-party agencies that overcharge.

Applies when the temporary exemption doesn't cover the passport's nationality.

Apply at least 72 hours before boarding.

Required documents

• A valid passport
• An approved K-ETA before you travel, if you are entering under the visa-waiver scheme and your nationality is not on the K-ETA temporary exemption list. The fee is KRW 10,000, non-refundable even if the application is denied, and a decision usually takes 72 hours or less
• An arrival card, unless you hold an approved K-ETA: those who do are exempt from filling one in on arrival

Vaccinations

• No mandatory vaccines for entry: no international certificate of vaccination (yellow fever included) is required under the International Health Regulations.

Health insurance

Not mandatory for this destination.

Transit rules

If you have a layover at Incheon you can join the airport's transit tour programme without a visa, provided you meet its requirements. The detail not to overlook is the K-ETA: coming from a visa-exempt country does not release you from applying for one. Only nationalities covered by the temporary K-ETA exemption are outside it, and the Ministry of Justice extends that exemption in fixed-term stretches.

Cash

Declare if cash reaches or exceeds 10,000 USD.

Alcohol

1 liter (one bottle) of alcoholic beverage up to a value of 400 USD, duty-free — for those over 19.

Tobacco

200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 20mg of e-cigarette liquid, or 250g of other tobacco products — for those over 19.

Overstay penalties

Overstaying leaves you in illegal-stay status, which brings a fine or deportation. There is a way out worth knowing about: South Korea periodically runs special voluntary departure programmes under which anyone who leaves the country of their own accord within the set window is exempted from the fine and has entry restrictions suspended. Outside those programmes, having been deported or having paid a large penalty within the previous three years restricts future entry. The specific overstay fine is not given here: the figures that can be found rest on articles of the Immigration Act penalising unauthorised work, which is a different matter.

Common reasons for denial

• Having given false or inaccurate information in the K-ETA application: the official portal warns that the authorisation is refused or cancelled, and that penalties or entry restrictions may follow under Korean law.
