Authorisation system
Visa from the Sudanese Embassy, before travel
Every foreigner must register within three days of arrival with the Directorate General of Passports or the airport police station, although Spain's Foreign Ministry does not know whether those offices are working normally. Permits are needed to leave Port Sudan and to use cameras, and journalists must accredit themselves on arrival with the Ministry of Information.
Required documents
- Passport with at least six months' validity and, according to the UK Government, no Israeli visas or stamps.
- A visa obtained before travel from the Sudanese Embassy.
- Registration within three days of arrival.
- Minors need parental authorisation to enter, leave and register.
Transit rules
Drinking, buying or selling alcohol is severely punished and importing it is strictly forbidden. Homosexuality can carry life imprisonment. According to the UK Government, a single-entry visa requires an exit visa, and leaving Red Sea State requires a travel permit.
