Colombia sets its entry regime nationality by nationality: most passports from the region and Western Europe enter visa-free for up to 90 days, while other nationalities need a visa or prior authorization. Do you need a different visa for Bogota, Medellin, or Cartagena?
No. Colombia sets the requirements, so entering through Bogota asks for the same as entering through Medellin or Cartagena. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.
What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.
What draws travelers to Colombia
Colombia combines the Caribbean, the Andes and jungle in a single country. Cartagena de Indias, with its walled colonial city — a World Heritage site — and its plazas, is the Caribbean face. Bogotá, the high-altitude capital, has the Gold Museum and the Candelaria district. The Coffee Region, between Pereira and Medellín, World Heritage for its coffee cultural landscape, gathers colourful towns such as Salento and the Cocora valley with its giant wax palms. It can be visited year-round thanks to the range of altitudes. Official advisories keep high levels for the Venezuela border and some rural departments; the usual tourist destinations fall outside those areas.
