Check-Mig (mandatory pre-registration form)

Not a visa and has no cost, but it's mandatory for every traveller: it must be filled in up to 24 hours before arrival (and again between 72 and 1 hour before departure). Not completing it can result in denial of entry or exit.

Fee

Tourist entry itself has no fee for the passports we track; Check-Mig is free.

Processing time

Every traveller fills in Check-Mig, whether they need a visa or not. It is done online between 72 hours and one hour before your flight, and the receipt is issued straight away. There is no decision to wait for: it is a pre-registration ahead of border control, not an authorisation somebody has to approve.

Required documents

• Completed Check-Mig form (up to 24h before arrival).
• Return or onward travel ticket.
• Proof or address of accommodation.

Vaccinations

• No mandatory vaccines for entering Colombia. The yellow fever vaccine is recommended for travellers over 9 months of age visiting areas below 2,300 m outside Bogotá and the urban centres of Barranquilla, Cali, Cartagena and Medellín. Colombia may require the certificate for onward travel to certain parts of the country, and some countries require it from travellers who have previously been in Colombia.

Health insurance

Not mandatory for this destination.

Transit rules

Tourist stay of up to 90 days, extendable through Migración Colombia up to a maximum of 180 days per calendar year.

Customs limits

Cash

Declare if entering or leaving with more than USD 10,000 in cash (or the equivalent), per travelling family group.

Alcohol

The DIAN does not set a specific number of bottles: alcohol for personal or family use falls within the general traveller-baggage rule, up to 10 units of the same class, provided the combined value does not exceed the exempt quotas (US$2,000 in accompanied baggage) and shows no commercial intent.

Tobacco

Same criterion as alcohol: the DIAN does not publish a specific cigarette limit; tobacco for personal use is governed by the general rule of up to 10 units of the same class within the value-based exempt quotas.

Overstay penalties

Administrative fine from Migración Colombia (under Resolution 360 of 2015), with 2025 amounts of roughly COP 1,310,000 to 10,480,000 depending on severity and days overstayed; can come with deportation and a re-entry ban of up to 5 years in serious cases. Exact figures not confirmed against the resolution's current text, only against secondary sources citing it.

Common reasons for denial

• Not having completed the Check-Mig form before arrival or departure.
