Do you need a different visa for Montevideo, Punta del Este, or Colonia del Sacramento?
No. Uruguay sets the requirements, so entering through Montevideo asks for the same as entering through Punta del Este or Colonia del Sacramento. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What draws travelers to Uruguay
Uruguay is small, calm and made of short distances along the coast. Montevideo, the capital, has its old town, the riverside promenade along the widest river in the world, and a food scene centred on the Mercado del Puerto. An hour away is Colonia del Sacramento, the Portuguese historic quarter listed as World Heritage, cobbled streets facing Buenos Aires. To the east, the Atlantic coast runs from the glamour of Punta del Este to the fishing villages and dunes of Cabo Polonio and José Ignacio. The interior is ranch country, estancias and hot springs. Uruguay has 3 UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Fray Bentos industrial landscape. A week covers Montevideo, Colonia and the east coast. Being in the southern hemisphere, summer (December-March) is the beach season; the rest of the year is quiet and mild.
