What we've verified for Zimbabwe

Beyond the yes/no matrix, we've checked these against an official primary source (last checked 25 September 2026). The specifics depend on your nationality: open your passport's row in the table for the detail that applies to you.

Sources: exteriores.gob.es (travel advice of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Zimbabwe, updated 9 June 2026: six-month passport and no ID cards, extendable 30-day visa, USD 30, 45 and 55 fees, KAZA, deportation, fines and prison, minors via South Africa, Victoria Falls entry, yellow fever, risk areas); gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/zimbabwe (UK Government: three pages, e-Visa, KAZA and where to get it, Embassy in London, temporary work permits, gemstones, pornography, USD 10,000 declaration and exit with more than 2,000, journalists); sanidad.gob.es ("Listado de países") and who.int (WHO): yellow fever; data.unesco.org (World Heritage List). All checked on 25 September 2026. Also: zimra.co.zw (Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, "Traveler's Rebate": USD 200 allowance, 5 litres of alcohol including 2 of spirits, and exclusions, 25 September 2026).

This table summarises the exact entry mechanism for every passport we track. The difference between entering visa-free, with an electronic authorisation, with an e-Visa, or with a traditional visa is explained in visa, e-Visa, and electronic authorisation: what's the difference. How we verify every row before publishing it is on methodology.

Zimbabwe rules for every passport

Vaccinations, customs limits and penalties are the same for every traveller. Grounds for refusal depend on how you enter.

Vaccinations

  • Yellow fever: a certificate is required from travellers arriving from a country with risk of transmission, except children under one, and from those who have spent more than 12 hours in transit at an airport in one of them.

Customs limits

Cash
Cash or travellers' cheques worth 10,000 US dollars or more must be declared, and customs stamps the declaration. It is illegal to leave Zimbabwe with more than 2,000 dollars in cash.
Alcohol
Aged 18 and over: up to 5 litres of alcoholic drinks, of which no more than 2 may be spirits, within the general allowance of 200 US dollars per person for goods for personal use. The allowance does not cover meat, fish, dairy, eggs or other staple foods on the ZIMRA list.
Tobacco
The tobacco allowance could not be confirmed. Pornographic material is prohibited, and precious or semi-precious stones may only be carried with the correct paperwork.

Overstay penalties

Anyone who exceeds the stay allowed by the visa can be deported, according to Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The amount of any fine could not be confirmed against Zimbabwe's immigration law.

Grounds for refusal

  • A passport with less than six months' validity or without three blank pages.

Travel insurance

Each destination decides whether to require insurance, and some check it at the border. If yours does, make sure the policy covers the whole trip.

Do you need a different visa for Harare, Bulawayo, or Victoria Falls?

No. Zimbabwe sets the requirements, so entering through Harare asks for the same as entering through Bulawayo or Victoria Falls. If you're arriving overland or through a small border post, check that separately: some countries apply their own rules to specific crossings.

What does change is where you file the application when a visa is needed, and that depends on the country you live in rather than the city you're travelling to.

What draws travellers to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has five properties on the World Heritage List. Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya, shared with Zambia, are the main visit. Great Zimbabwe, the dry-stone city that was capital of a kingdom between the 11th and 15th centuries, gave the country its name, and the Khami ruins near Bulawayo belong to the period that followed. The Matobo Hills combine granite formations with rock paintings, and Mana Pools National Park, on the Zambezi, lets you see wildlife on foot or by canoe. Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs flags no risk areas, but advises against walking in city centres once it gets dark, around 17:30 or 18:00, because there is hardly any street lighting.
