Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Uzbekistan, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Authorisation system

Uzbekistan e-visa

For visa-exempt nationalities, the visa-free period starts when you cross the border and you must leave when it ends. To stay longer, you have to apply at an embassy of Uzbekistan for the visa that matches the purpose of the trip. Nationalities in Annex 1 of the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs can apply for an electronic visa at e-visa.gov.uz.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least three months beyond the end of the stay, according to Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Make sure your passport is stamped on entry: that stamp is checked on exit to confirm you have not exceeded the 30 days.
  • Registration of your stay within the first three days, Saturdays and Sundays included, and again in each city where you spend more than three days. In hotels and private homes the establishment or host does it; anyone camping or travelling in a camper van must register online in the Emehmon system and pay the tourist tax, which for now only accepts an Uzbek bank card.
  • Always carry your passport and proof of registration: it is compulsory and the police check often.

Health insurance

Not mandatory for this destination.

Transit rules

Citizens of the countries in Annex 2 of the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs (among them Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela, the United States, India or Morocco) may stay up to five days visa-free when in transit through an Uzbek international airport, provided they hold a ticket to a third country issued by Uzbekistan Airways. For everyone else, the transit visa of up to 72 hours costs USD 40. Border areas are usually closed to foreigners except at crossing points, and visiting them requires prior authorisation.
