How this visa is processed
Foreigners' Sub-directorate of the Guatemalan Migration Institute (Guatemala City): the application is lodged by the Guatemalan guarantor, by appointment
For Guatemala, Cuba is a category C country, the consulted-visa group, so a Cuban cannot simply apply at a consulate, because the application is lodged by a Guatemalan guarantor (a person or a company) with the Foreigners' Sub-directorate of the Guatemalan Migration Institute, by appointment and in a grey folder, with no crossings-out. The Institute decides, and the form states where the visa will be stamped. The file contains the application form signed by the guarantor, a passport valid for at least six months and a full copy legalised by a Guatemalan notary or certified by the Cuban authorities, a police clearance certificate, two studio photos on matte paper, the reason for the trip (hotel booking, tour package or an invitation letter from the guarantor or a resident saying where the traveller will stay and how they will get around) and proof of payment. The guarantor provides an up-to-date guarantor certificate and, if an individual, proof of income and last month's bank statement; the form asks for a monthly income equal to five minimum wages. The Institute's fee schedule sets 25 USD for lodging a visa application, and the Institute charges in quetzales at the official exchange rate of the day. The Institute warns that an approved visa does not mean unconditional admission to the country.

Verified practical details
You'll need to apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy before travelling. Here are the practical details we've verified:
Fee
50 USD
According to Guatemala's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the single or tourist visa costs USD 50 for one entry, and the multiple-entry tourist visa USD 150. Visa-exempt travellers pay no entry fee. Category B (consular visa) nationals holding a valid visa from the United States, Mexico, Canada or the Schengen area do not need the Guatemalan visa.
Required documents
- Electronic or machine-readable passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
- Onward or return ticket.
- Central American Unified Traveler's Declaration (DUCA-F), electronic, mandatory since July 2023 on entry and exit (generates a QR code).
- Check that the immigration officer stamps your passport on entry: there are documented cases of tourists not getting an entry stamp at a land border crossing and later being charged a fine for "irregular stay".
Health insurance
Not mandatory for this destination.

Stay of up to 90 days, extendable once, shared with the rest of the CA-4 bloc (El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua): the count doesn't reset when crossing from Guatemala into any of those three countries. Important: this is only an internal mobility regime: each CA-4 country sets its own entry visa policy for third countries. Nicaragua unilaterally tightened its own in February 2026, requiring prior authorisation from nationalities that previously entered without one; this doesn't change anything about entering Guatemala itself, but it can affect anyone planning to cross from Guatemala into Nicaragua within the same trip.
